Can you clean the inside of a microwave oven?
When it’s time to clean your microwave, use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes to disinfect the outside, and lemon to clean the inside. Wipes are the easy way to clean all your kitchen appliances.
Start by mixing at least two tablespoons of baking soda with one cup of water in a microwave-safe container. Microwave the mixture on high for five minutes. This mix will create extra-dense steam that breaks up grime and kills bad odors. After five minutes, carefully remove the container.
Add four tablespoons of baking soda to a quart of warm water. Make sure to mash and stir vigorously so that the powder completely dissolves. Dip a cloth or sponge into the mixture and wipe it over the whole inside of the microwave. Next, pour equal parts of water and white vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl.
Place one cup of water in a bowl inside your microwave. Cook the water for three minutes. Let the water and steam stay inside the microwave for an additional five minutes. Wipe the mess clean with a wet, soapy cloth and then dry.
Start by placing 1 cup of water, a few tablespoons vinegar, and a few slices of lemon in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high for 2 minutes (or until the water boils). Then keep the door shut and let it steam the inside of your microwave for 15 minutes.
Tempting though it may be, steel wool should be avoided; it leaves scratches that ruin the microwave’s finish. Once you’ve given the interior a first pass, try one of these three approaches for a good, thorough cleaning.
Remove any debris or loose burnt pieces from the microwave, then mix 1 cup of water with 1 tablespoon of either lemon juice or vinegar in a microwave-safe container. Heat for 2-5 minutes. Wipe the interior with a sponge or paper towel.
Put a tablespoon of white vinegar in a microwave safe bowl with cup of water. Microwave this for approximately 2 minutes and allow the door to stay shut for 15 minutes. The steam will allow any smell-causing particles stuck to the interior to be loosened and the vinegar will absorb any odors.
To clean a really dirty microwave, combine vinegar and water, lemon juice and water, or baking soda and water in a heatproof bowl. Then, heat the mixture for three to five minutes. Let it sit a bit before your wipe it out. This way, you avoid scrubbing and your microwave breaks down the tough stains and grease for you.
Regular surface cleaners will clean the inside of your microwave, but will leave behind a fragrance which can mingle with your food so if you’ve got one of these, we recommend using a specialised microwave cleaning spray. Make sure to spray on to a cloth first to avoid it getting into vents.
