If you have a gas oven, your broiler is likely in a separate broiler drawer with a broiler pan at the bottom of your oven. Gas ovens heat from below, which is why the broil drawer is beneath the ovenbroiling involves intense heat from above. The broiling pan has a rack that sits atop a tray to catch any drippings.
A double wall oven is a baking unit built into the wall with two separate oven areas. Each of the units has its own set of controls, allowing for two different cooking temperatures. Wall ovens are available in both gas and electric models, although electric versions are more popular and offer a greater selection.
Although the temperature control and the temperature range are better in a gas oven, it tends to fluctuate on and off. This may affect quick baking recipes. For constant temperatures, electric ovens fare better. You need to have a gas line to bake in a gas oven.
Both gas and electric cookers cost money to run, but they do differ greatly in how much they cost. If you use an electric cooker, you will use less energy but as electricity costs are more than gas per unit, you may end up paying slightly more for an electric cooker.
Indicators that your stove is electric are that you have an electric coil, you have an electrical outlet near the stove, and there is a plug on the stove. Indicators that your stove is gas are that there are burners instead of coils, a hose coming out of the back of the stove and there is a gas valve near the oven.
Wall ovens can be operated by gas and electric but electric models are more readily available.
Like other fuel-burning appliances, a gas stove produces carbon monoxide so it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. That said, this doesn’t necessarily mean your gas stove is unsafe, but it does mean you should be careful when using it.
An oven that won’t heat is usually the result of a faulty igniter (for a gas oven) or heating element (for an electric oven). You may be able to replace the heating element or igniter yourself: Make sure to turn off the power to your oven before servicing it.
