Do you have to preheat oven?

Preheating your oven helps ensure your food goes from refrigerator cold to blazing hot more quickly spending as little time in the danger zone as possible. And even if this is a short amount of time, just know that some bacteria can multiply in the danger zone in as little as 20 minutes.

For juicy, perfectly cooked meat: Smeg ovens you can go up to anything between 250C – 280C. Once the oven has reached maximum temperature, turn it down to your regular roasting temperature of 180C, and roast as normal. To keep poultry moist, stuff the hollow cavity with onion and lemons.

Hold down the “Function/Thermostat” knob for five seconds to enter the oven’s “Secondary Menu”; tap the dial until “Bloc” appears on the display then turn the dial until “Off” is displayed. You can temporarily turn off the child lock by holding the “Function/Thermostat” for five seconds.

Smeg’s pyrolytic ovens feature an automatic cleaning function which means no detergents need to be used in the oven cavity.

The appliance is equipped with an electronic ignition device. Simply press the knob and turn it anti- clockwise to the maximum flame symbol, until the burner lights. If the burner does not light in the first 15 seconds, turn the knob to and wait 60 seconds before trying again.

To turn on the gas oven open the oven door. Press the temperature knob in (B) slightly and turn anticlockwise to 250C, then press the knob in fully for approximately 15 seconds. This will heat the thermocouple and allow the gas to flow through. (You do not need to use the knob marked 1-12 at this stage.)

The Vapour Clean function is a special function that uses steam to help lift spillages and burnt on food residue from the inside of the oven. All built in ovens with LCD displays have this as a selectable programme and which is 18 minutes long.

Press in the right knob (function knob) to start cooking. Cucina oven that has a digital display & knob controls- 1. Turn and rotate the oven function knob (right knob) to select an oven function 2. Turn and rotate the temperature knob (left knob) to select a cooking temperature.

The Smeg model number is located on the lower part of the Smeg hob which is fixed to the casing. In order to read it, you must access the lower part. A copy of the label is included with the instruction booklet.

Preheating an oven generally takes about 12-15 minutes to reach 350F, although the type and size of your oven may cause this time to vary. Preheating your oven is essential to getting great cooking results.
