Yes! SHARP holds several patents on the design, having manufactured the first microwave drawer for residential kitchens. Appearance and controls vary by model and brand name, but every single one is manufactured by SHARP.
Sharp establishes Sharp Manufacturing Company of America (SMCA) in Memphis, Tennessee. This is the company’s first overseas manufacturing facility in the industrialized world. Production of color TVs and microwave ovens gets under way the same year.
In 2016, when Foxconn acquired Sharp for $3.8 billion, there were questions over how the company would deploy the intellectual property that came with it.

Subsequently, a majority share of Sharp was bought by Taiwanese manufacturer Foxconn, which reclaimed the rights to the Sharp brand from Hisense in 2019. The company recently announced a return to the U.S. TV market in 2022.

The kitchen suite, which Sharp says is a seamless, full-kitchen solution for consumers, includes SuperSteam Ovens, Induction Cooktops, Wall Ovens, Slide-in Range, Microwave Drawers, and Over-the-Range Microwave Ovens. In addition to these products, the company will offer dishwashers and refrigerators.
