How do you know if you need to replace oven control board?
Gas valve is off Turn the gas shutoff valve back to the ON position. Oven needs to be reset Sometimes, the unit needs to be reset. Simply press the OFF button and wait about five minutes to push the ON button.
This is indicating that one or more keys are permanently pressed. Make sure the cooktop controls are OFF.
If your GE oven has an F2 (or F20) error code, the oven is detecting that the temperature inside the oven has exceeded a preset threshold. In plain English, it means the temperature has exceeded 615 degrees, or 915 degrees Fahrenheit during a self-cleaning cycle.
When the F3 code flashes on your GE oven, this indicates that there is a fault with the oven temperature sensor. There are a few parts that could be causing the fault. These include the wire harness, control board or the oven temperature sensor itself.
If the F2 error code has frozen on the oven after shutting down, then unplug the oven for 30 seconds. Plug the oven back in and see if the error code appears again. At times glitches will occur and the error code will randomly appear.
A properly working control should have a lit-up display and respond to commands. If the display is not lit, test the hot neutral going to the control for 120 volts. If 120VAC +/- 10% is present at the control, the control should be replaced.
ERR. ERR means that there has been an invalid entry, when setting the oven controls. Reset your control.
Repair is always an option, until the repairs cost more than the oven is worth. If your oven is constantly breaking down, it may mean that the unit is reaching the point of no return. Continually replacing parts and paying for repairs can add up quickly, so buying a new oven would just make more sense financially.
On some models it is possible that F1 could also be caused by a keypad problem. In this case it will specify in the tech sheet to power down the oven, disconnect the keypad then power the oven back on, wait for a few minutes to see if the error reappears. If the error reappears it is definitely the control board.
One of the top causes of an electronic oven control board failure is power surge damage. An electrical power surge is often caused by a close lightning strike during an electric storm. Power surges can also be caused by power outages, electrical grid overloads, utility service provider load shifting and wind storms.
If the readings you see are either lower than 900 Ohms or higher than 1200 Ohms, that means the temperature sensor should be replaced. If the readings fall between the range of 900 to 1200 Ohms, you will have to get a new oven control board.
