Ducted or vented microwaves feature exhaust fans that vent air outside of the house. Recirculating, non-ducted or updraft microwaves filter air then push it back into the kitchen. Convertible microwaves give you the option to select your ventilation type.
No, do not use flex duct for your range hood. Most flex duct is made of cheap materials and will not last nearly as long as semi-rigid or rigid duct. You run the risk of having to clean or replace your duct which is quite expensive.
Microwaves are shipped from the factory to vent out the top (vertically) but can also be vented out the rear (horizontally).
Recommended Vent Length The total length of the vent system including straight vent, elbow(s), transitions and wall or roof caps must not exceed the equivalent of 140 ft (42.7 m) for either type of vent. See Recommended Standard Fittings section for equivalent lengths.
A higher CFM is always better for your kitchen fan. You can always run a high CFM hood on lower settings. It provides great ventilation by moving a heavy amount of air per minute. If you cook often or enjoy Asian cooking, a high powered fan is essential to keep grease out of your kitchen exhaust system.
$125 $500 Installed Custom cabinet work, adding an outlet and replacing the vent hood are extra costs.
Work with your assistant to slowly lower the front of the microwave until it is at a 45-degree angle. Then, gently lift the microwave off the rear brackets. Pull the electric cord through the hole in the cabinet and remove the microwave.
The vent is on the top rear as with most over the range microwaves. You can vent it traditionally (ie to an outside vent) or recirculate it, which means just that–the air recirculates as opposed to being vented outside. There is an air filter used for this that comes with the unit.
Normal range: $106 – $188 The average microwave installation runs $147 , but depending on the type and installation, expect a range between $106 and $188
Some over-the-range microwaves have exhaust fans that vent kitchen air out of the house through ductwork in the wall. Some don’t and instead filter, then push it back out into the kitchen. Many will come with the ability to do either, so you must choose which one and set it up before installing.
Some microwaves have front exhaust vents that eliminate the need for duct work in the house walls. Other microwaves have a top or back vent which connects to exhaust duct work. A microwave positioned over a stove is mounted to both the back wall and the underside of the upper cabinet, regardless of vent placement.
Convertible means it can vent through the wall or ceiling using a duct, or can be converted to non-venting (filters the air and blows it back into the kitchen) with Recirculation Kit Part Number W10294733 which is available from your dealer or an authorized parts distributor.
All current over the range microwaves and Advantium ovens can be installed over gas cooking products up to and including 5 burner stoves. As long as the 66″ minimum from the floor to the top of the unit is followed there will be no performance or warranty concerns.
All microwaves need to be ventilated. System can be any recirculating vent or exhaust fan system! Both systems have their pros & cons. A recirculating duct might need to be replaced every 6 months, yet, it’s cheap and easy-to-install!
At least one existing rule allows a minimum of 13 inches, but pro installers and others who know their way around kitchens argue that there should be 20 to 24 inches of clearance above the stove top.
