Steamed Rice or Pressure Cooked Rice, Which One is Better? According to statistics, rice cooked in a pressure cooker tastes good as it has got a texture. On the other hand, steamed rice is healthy as it has lesser fat content because the starch is removed.

Do you have to soak brown rice before cooking? Soaking is optional, but we recommend it! Soaking grains helps to remove some of the naturally-occurring phytic acid in the grain, which helps improve digestibility and speed cook time.
Place in a steamer filled with cold water (the water should not be boiling when the rice is placed into the steamer). Turn on the heat to high, cover, and cook for 20 minutes. Turn off the heat, and let the rice sit in the steamer with the lid on for at least 5 more minutes.
| Preparation | Place the rice in a bamboo steaming basket and steam for about 20 minutes. The rice should be cooked through with no raw bits in the middle of the grains. Turn off the heat and keep the rice in the steamer with the lid on.
Drain rice and put in a steamer basket (see cooks’ note, below) lined with cheesecloth. Steam rice, covered with lid, over boiling water until shiny and tender, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, 5 minutes. Serve hot, warm, or at room temperature.
Use two cups of water for every one cup of rice.
The general ratio recommendation for brown rice is 2 1/4 cups water to 1 cup brown rice.
Submerge a packet of boil-in-a-bag rice in the boiling water. Boil for 8 to 12 minutes, uncovered. The rice is ready when it puffs up and takes up all the space in the bag.
