Coleman painted the founts of Models 220E & 228E metallic green for a short time in 1961. This pair is date stamped July ’61, The 220E (left) is in Dean DeGroff’s collection while the 228E is in Ronnie Hardison’s collection.

How Long Are Small Propane Tanks Good For? Propane tanks of 100 pounds capacity or less have an expiration date of 12 years from the date of manufacture. Coleman recommends a shelf life of 5 7 years for liquid camp fuel if the container is unopened and full. If the vintage Coleman Fuel has been opened then its shelf life is reduced to around 24 months.
To measure how many pounds of propane are left in your tank, simply weigh it on a scale and subtract the TW number. For example, if a tank weighing 27 pounds has a TW of 17 pounds, there’s about 10 pounds of gas left a little more than half a tank.
Coleman propane gas canisters are handy for camping. They are used to power outdoor cooktops and portable propane camping-lanterns. While these canisters are usually thrown away after being emptied, you can refill them using a 20 lb. propane tank.
Coleman in Wichita made the popular 425 series beginning in 1948. These Model 425 stoves, in John Stendahl’s collection, are undated. Coleman used the parallelogram decals inside the top lids on their stove models beginning with the 425 Model above (upper image).
Power And Heat The Coleman oven has a max temperature of 600F, which is certainly impressive. That is 200F more than the Camp Chef oven, so if you need something capable of reaching extremely high temperatures, the Coleman oven might be a better fit for you.
For the past 50 years Coleman has essentially made two models of liquid fuels two burner stoves, the 424 /425 and the larger 413 / 414. The 424 and 414 are Dual Fuel stoves that burn both Coleman fuel and Unleaded gas.
