A steam microwave is a combination or hybrid model that combines the functionality of a standard microwave oven with a dedicated steamer. Use a steam microwave to steam frozen vegetables, raw vegetables, raw meat, and more, with reduced cooking times for healthy meals.
Microwaves cook using radio waves that penetrate food, exciting fat and water molecules to heat them quickly and evenly. In a conventional microwave oven, food can be steamed by adding a small amount of water to food in a covered dish. The radio waves will then heat the water to produce steam.
Microwave cooking and steaming are both healthy ways to cook vegetables to prevent nutrient losses. Cooking without added water helps maintain water-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin C and the B vitamins, that are otherwise leeched into cooking water.
If your microwave has sensor controls, it is not necessary to touch “Start” after depressing the sensor control pad. The microwave will automatically begin cooking the food. The moisture sensor inside the microwave detects the steam emitted from the food when it is cooking and automatically adjusts the cooking time.

A combi-steam oven, sometimes called convection-steam oven, helps you get your holiday cooking done faster and with more health benefits. It will do just about everything a microwave oven will, including defrosting and reheating, with one exception: It won’t make microwave popcorn.
